Obituary for Wilma Frances "Fran" Anderson (Carpenter)

Wilma Frances “Fran” Carpenter Anderson, 91, formerly of Oakdale, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in Mercycrest Assisted Living, Barling, Arkansas.

Fran was born on June 7, 1932, in Gay, West Virginia, the only child of Okey Marshall and Georgia Leona Tuttle Carpenter.

Fran was a homemaker, loved cooking and baking for her family, playing the piano, and enjoyed sewing and knitting in her free time. She also enjoyed gardening, raising both vegetables and beautiful flowers, and volunteered in the elementary school cafeteria. She adored her parents and took wonderful care of both her own mother and her mother-in-law in their later years.

Fran spent several years working as a teacher’s aide at McKee Elementary School. Her kind and gentle spirit was the perfect fit to be working with children every day. Those two qualities are what everyone cherished most about Fran. She was a soft spoken, faithful and devoted woman. You never had to question her love for you because she always made sure to show it.

For many years, until health concerns kept her at home, Fran was a faithful Christian and active member of Oakdale United Presbyterian Church. She was an avid reader who enjoyed novels and spent hours reading her Bible daily. She absorbed every word she read and lived her life just the way it taught her.

Fran and her late husband, Donald L. Anderson, married on January 7, 1956. Her husband was her best friend, and they started the family that they had dreamt of. Fran and Don raised their two children, Nelson and Susan, together and provided a loving Christian home for them. As years passed, Nelson and Susan began their own families and the Anderson family continued to grow. Fran’s children and grandchildren were the greatest joy in her life. She loved every member of her family, and each one held a special place in her heart. Sadly, Don passed away in 1994 but Fran spent the remainder of her years devoted to his memory.

Surviving are her children, Nelson (Amy) Anderson and Susan Hough, grandchildren, Elishia (Arthur Goffus) Youells, Sarah (Shawn Weber}Robertson, April (Russell) Wisniewski, Natalie (John) Dye, Evalyne (Jay Burkhart) Anderson, Olivia Anderson, Matthew (Kendra) Hough and Katie (Addison Hodgin) Hough, 25 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Betty (the late Ronald) Anderson, and nephew, David Anderson. Fran was preceded in death by nephews Richard Anderson and Robert Anderson.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 305 Main Street, Imperial (724-695-2800). A Service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
