Obituary for William C. "Bill" Underwood Jr.

William C. “Bill” Underwood, Jr., passed away on, January 10, 2023, in Good Samaritan Hospice House.
Bill was born on December 7, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late William C. and Mabel (Rogers) Underwood, Sr.

Bill was a Pittsburgh railroad engineer for over 40 years. He loved the auto mechanical work that came with his job and thoroughly enjoyed himself. He was a talented man when it came to working with his hands. Bill built his family’s home from the ground up in up Oakdale. He was so proud of such a wonderful accomplishment and to see his family grow in the home he built. Building a home for his family was one of the many ways Bill was able to care for his family. Being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, was something that filled his heart daily. He had so much love for his family that even after death still will continue.

Bill was also an excellent musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar, fiddle and just about any instrument he could get his hands on. When he was in high school, Bill was even on WJPA radio in Claysville with his band, The Streamline Ramblers. He was known as “Fiddling Bill”. He loved to share his musical talent in high school and communities, bringing smiles to others faces as they listened to him play. As he got older, he continued to play his instruments and music for his family. His favorite group was Sons of the Pioneers.
Bill and his late wife enjoyed every second of their lives together. They were blessed to build their family full of love and laughter which continued into two other generations. When Bill and his wife, Betty Lou were younger, they enjoyed riding bikes and jumping from flea market to flea market. Whatever the two could do together, they enjoyed it. Being with each other was what was most important to the two of them. Now they are able to rejoice together forever.

Surviving are his children 4 children, Barbara (Walt) Smith, Tim (Lisa) Underwood, William (Sue) Underwood, III, and Terri (Tony) Lekay, eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lou (Northey) Underwood, grandson, Brian Underwood, great grandsons, Ravi Dallas and Nixon Smith, great granddaughter, Anniston Smith, and two brothers and six sisters. Also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tony Lekay.
