Obituary for Wilbert C. "Will" Gates

Wilbert C. Gates, 81, of McDonald, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, in his daughter’s home in New Mexico.

Wilbert was born on October 15, 1941 in Bridgeville, a son of the late Fred and Wilma (Kovach) Gates.

Mr. Gates was a retired baker for Cellones Italian Bread. Will loved baking and being in the kitchen. He and his late wife, Carol, would spend hours baking and cooking for all their family and friends. Mr. Gates kind and caring nature was shown with each and every goodie that came from his kitchen. There was no doubt that Will was a talented and hardworking man. Not only was he skilled in the kitchen, but Will had a green thumb as well. Tending to his garden was another joy of his that always brought so much happiness to him. More than anything, Will loved his family. His huge heart was filled with so much love for each and every member of his family. He loved each person in their own special way and every moment spent with Mr. Gates is one that will be cherished forever. Mr.Gates was a US Army veteran serving from 1964-1970.

Surviving are his children; Michelle Burton and Martin Gates, grandchildren; Jessica Borella, Jessica Cunningham, Julia Cunningham ,Jamison Gates, Emily Gates, and Abby Gates, great grandchildren; Audrey and Mason Trunick, siblings; Fred Gates, Wilma Albaugh and Carol Ann Krivach.

Along with his parents, Wilbert is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol (Scalise) Gates.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800).
