Thomas A. Douglas, 88, of McDonald, North Fayette Township, formally of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on December 7, 2022.

Thomas was born on October 10, 1934, in McKeesport, a son of the late Thomas G. and Margaret (Mitchell) Douglas and brother of the late Agnes McCormick.

Thomas celebrated 60 years of marriage with his wife Elizabeth on June 29, 2022.

Mr. Douglas was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served in Germany and Lebanon. After serving in the military, Thomas went on to graduate with his Master’s degree in Education from the University in Pittsburgh. He pursued a career at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor until his retirement after 30 years of service.

Thomas was a faithful member of the Universal Presbyterian Church in Penn Hills, where he enjoyed serving as an Elder and singing in the choir. He was a member of F & AM Masonic Lodge Infinity 546 in Penn Hills.

Thomas’s favorite passion was spending time with his family and traveling with his wife to many different places. A favorite family destination was the Outer Banks of North Carolina where many special memories were made.

He was blessed to be a loving husband, father, Papa and great-Papa. He enjoyed breakfasts on Monday’s and Wednesday’s with his “breakfast buddy” and great grandson Dominic.

He loved and was loved by many family pets over the years.

Thomas enjoyed sports, history, science and woodworking. He had a great natural artistic ability. He never missed watching a Pitt football game and enjoyed sideline coaching from his living room. He could never understand why math was such a difficult subject for everyone in his immediate family- despite his patient tutoring.

Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth (Mitchell) Douglas, children; Laura (Daniel) Placha, Thomas M. (Lori) Douglas and Steven (Robb Wooten) Douglas, grandchildren; Jenna (Jim) Muraco, Jaclyn (Jake) Leninsky, Alyssa Placha, Rebecca (Bill) Theiss, Taylor (Patrick) Harrison and Jordan Douglas, great grandchildren; Dominic and Cecelia Muraco and Charles Leninsky.
