Obituary for Ruth L. Morrida Carmen (Bigley)

She was born in Noblestown, PA to parents Nellie Grant Shafer and Harvey Harrison Bigley who had six other children – Anita, Edith, Charlotte, Mary Nell, Donald, Melvin.

She is survived by her five children - Lynn, Debbie, Ed, Sue and Danielle, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, her sister Anita and friends.

She was preceded in death by Edward A. Morrida, her loving husband of 34 years and their son Ronald (1961-1962). Also preceded in death by Joseph Carmen, her husband of 11 years.

A long life comes with periods of challenge, hardship and crisis. But Ruth (or Bird as she was known by many friends) faced hers with grace and resilience. She took joy from the simple things: family, country and western music, soduku puzzles, dogs, cats, her daytime “stories” and travel, whether to an exciting destination on a cruise with Joe or just down the road to Wal-Mart. She shared that joy freely with everyone, served up with a smile, a laugh and a listening ear.

A woman of faith, she remembered us all in her nighttime prayers. The answers to her prayers are now with us forever in the blessing of her memory and the examples of her courage and zest for life filled with love.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800). A Service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
