Obituary for Mary B. Heirendt (Johns)

Mary B. Johns Heirendt, 76, of McDonald, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in her home.

Mary was born on May 1, 1947, in Pittsburgh a daughter of the late Joseph and Eva Struth Johns.

Mrs. Heirendt worked in the bakery at the McDonald Giant Eagle where she was quick with a smile and a laugh. She enjoyed working in her hometown, getting to see all her many friends was something that brought her so much joy. Another part of Mary’s life that filled her heart was that of her family. There was no one that she loved more than her husband, sons, grandchildren and extended family. Being a grandmother was her favorite role in life. She enjoyed watching her three grandchildren grow up to become great young adults. She was their biggest cheerleader and never missed an event whether it was countless youth football and baseball games or dance recitals, Grandma was there. She enjoyed being active in her family’s life, whether it was traveling to Erie every summer to go camping at Presque Isle or sitting on the porch swing watching hummingbirds and listening to the wind chimes while playing games and telling stories. She was always there and never strayed away from them. Mary never strayed away from anyone. She was a very helping person and loved giving back to others. After Mary suffered a stroke, many people began giving back to her after her years of kindness. She was so thankful to each and every person that took the time to be with her and never let you leave without telling you Thanks. But of course Mary still had to give back. She became active in The Brain Recovery Crew Stroke Support Group, where she made a number of very good friends and cherished those relationships still to this day. The later years were tough on Mary but through it all she continued to stay strong and be a presence in her family’s life. Never missing an important event or turning down a good burger. Mary enjoyed sitting on her porch reading and talking with her neighbors. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and all that knew and loved her.

Surviving is her son, Lawrence (Jennifer) Heirendt, grandchildren, Tanner, Grace and Nathan Heirendt, sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Greg) Gottschalk, nieces and nephews, Debbie, Donnie, Lori, Gregory, Joey, Kimmie, Ronnie, Brian, Nicole, Michelle, Nick and Jacklyn.

Along with her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence Heirendt (1990), son, Robert Heirendt (2017), sister, Joyce (Don) Dewey, and brother, Joe (Patty) Johns.
