Obituary for Marianne Sforza (Arrigo)

Marianne Arrigo Sforza, 73, of Oakdale, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in St. Clair Hospital.

Marianne was born on June 2, 1949, in Pittsburgh, the only child of the late Salvatore and Rosemarie Purpura Arrigo.

Mrs. Sforza was a well-educated woman. She was a graduate of Edinboro University and received her Master in Library Science from Duquesne University. Education was very important to her, as Marianne entered a career as a Director of Library at the Western Allegheny Community Library. Marianne spent a wonderful 25 years at the library and she truly made such a difference, so much that they even named a reading garden after her. Mrs. Sforza helped build the library from the ground up. She was an avid supporter of supporting her community and there will to educate themselves, by always making sure they were bettering the library. Marianne worked around the clock to find different business and people that were willing to donate to help maintain the library. She was always so appreciative of every donation they received, big or small. Setting up fundraisers was a huge part of her job and Marianne was so good at it. Everyone that attended her fundraisers always left so happy and thankful for her job well done. Marianne never stopped helping others seek a higher education, she served for a year on the board at the Community College of Allegheny County – West Campus.

Although education was very important to her, nothing was more important than her family. Marianne was fortunate to marry the love of her life, what would have been 49 years ago on October 12th. Marianne and her loving husband, Leo were truly made for each other. They were soulmates and the perfect pair, even sharing the same birthday. Together they tackled every obstacle life threw at them, with grace and always so much love. Their love for each other is what made every day worth it. Their love is special, it is the kind that does not end with death, it merely continues on until their souls are reunited again.

Being a mother and grandmother were the greatest roles in Marianne’s life. She loved caring for her two daughter, one granddaughter and finally, her first grandson. They were all very special people in her life. They filled her life with so much love and laughter, always giving her a reason to smile. She cared for them through all seasons of life and it was such a joy for her to watch her family grow into what it is today.

Surviving is her loving husband and best friend, Leo Sforza, daughters, Anna (Santos) Bonilla and Amy (Garrett) Proper, grandchildren, Leia Rose and Lucca Santos Bonilla.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, May 7, 2023 from Noon-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800). A Blessing Services will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Western Allegheny Community Library or Gallagher Hospice, in memory of Marianne.
