Obituary for Leonard Lee DallaPiazza

Leonard Lee DallaPiazza, 74, of McDonald, Cecil Twp., passed away on, Friday, April 8, 2022, in his home.

Leonard was born on October 17, 1947 in Canonsburg, a son of the late Gilbert and Jenny (Rupnik) DallaPiazza.

Mr. DallaPiazza was a proud Navy Veteran. During his time in the Navy, Leonard served as a machinist aboard the USS Northampton. Affectionately known as “Mr. D”, Leonard was an art teacher for the Canon McMillian School District for 30 years. He loved creating art, he especially enjoyed painting. Teaching young minds was something he was so proud of, he loved sharing his passion with his students. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also found a love for classic cars. Above all, Leonard’s family was his pride and joy. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were what made him smile every day. He loved spending time with them and making new memories, that will now last a lifetime.

Surviving is his loving wife of 28 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Rettinger) DallaPiazza, children, Dr. Michelle (Tariq Zehawi) DallaPiazza, Kevin (Amber) DallaPiazza, step-children; James (Debbie) Ringer, David (Jan) Ringer and Lisa (Michael) Jones, grandchildren; Malaika and Safya Zehawi and Owen and Liam DallaPiazza, eight step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren, brothers, Dennis (Nancy) DallaPiazza and Keneth (Joy) DallaPiazza, uncle, Ed (Lona) Rupnik, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his parents, Leonard is preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A committal service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd., Bridgeville, PA 15017. All who are attending are asked to meet at the cemetery between 9:30 and 9:50 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800). Honors will be performed by Canonsburg VFW #191.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff of the Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh, Gateway Hospice, especially Todd and Amanda and Rev. Sue. They have gone above and beyond to take care of Leonard's family and a "thank you" will never be enough.
