Obituary for Laura L. McComas

Laura Lassiter McComas, 67, of Oakdale, Collier Township, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Born on April 6, 1956, in Washington, DC, Laura was the daughter of the late John and Betty Lassiter.

Proud to be raised in a military family, Laura lived on bases all over the country and abroad, including stints in Japan, Alaska, Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina, where she spent her young adult years, heading to the Carolina coast whenever she could. Throughout her life, Laura esteemed those who courageously served in the U.S. military.

Laura stayed home to raise her young children before returning to work. Among her favorite memories in her career was her time as the Director of Food Services at her children’s school in Nashville, Tennessee, where they loved seeing each other during the day. Laura later worked in supply chain purchasing, eventually retiring from Universal Electric Corp. in Canonsburg, PA.

Married to Don for 43 years, Laura found abiding joy in their shared faith, laying the foundation for their family. They fell in love almost as soon as they met and enjoyed an enduring commitment to one another throughout their lives together. Her love extended to their three children, whom she adored. Cooking was one of Laura's expressions of love, a tradition passed down through generations of her family, and one that continues to be cherished by her loved ones.

Becoming a grandmother brought Laura profound happiness, as she witnessed a new generation blossom. Her grandchildren were blessed by her generosity and her lullabies, and time spent with her in her favorite rocking chair. She was devoted to prayer and worship, and her legacy of praise will continue to impact her children and their children.

Laura was a deeply loving and fiercely strong woman of God, and she was everyone’s biggest encourager. Though she will be missed, her loved ones find comfort in knowing she has now gained all in "a better country—a heavenly one" (Hebrews 11:16).

Surviving is her loving husband, Don McComas, children, John David McComas, Elizabeth (Justin) Coffey, and Mark (Deitra) McComas, grandchildren, Annabelle, Troy, Scarlet and Hunter Coffey and Jason, Luke, Ava and Chloe McComas, brother, Michael (Debbie) Verbillis.

Her family will gather to celebrate her life on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Rd., Oakdale (724-693-2800).
