Obituary for Kenneth Schmac

Kenneth Schmac, 91, of McDonald, North Fayette Township, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 in his home.

Kenneth was born on September 21, 1932, in Primrose, a son of the late Frank and Julia Gema Schmac.

Mr. Schmac was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. Kenneth was honored to serve his country and was dedicated all his life. After serving in the military Kenneth worked as a welder for American Bridge in Ambridge. Kenneth loved being active in life, even outside of work. He and his wife Peg, whom he shared a special type of love with, raised a wonderful family together. They taught their children how to work hard but most importantly how to enjoy life.

Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Ken and Peg had a camp in Conneaut at camp Runamuck. The two of them would spend as much time as they could at the family camp. They had so many friends that came to their campfire to talk and drink Kens homemade Brandy known as “Paps Happy Juice”, which kept him and everyone sipping it happy.

He loved his country music which he listened everyday with his favorite being “George Jones” and his favorite song “He stopped loving her today”. Ken was known to say he did not like Pegs favorite singer Willie Nelson. A little over a year ago Ken’s hair was so long Deanna, his daughter, teased him and told him he was starting to look like Willie, so she and Pudge took him to the barber.

His family was his world and he truly loved every family member in a special way. Ken and Peg’s love was the perfect example for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all that knew them. Their happiness was infectious and often could be seen when the two of them were dancing the Polka down at the AA Club, which they had done for many of years. Life was not always perfect and through every obstacle they came together stronger and only helped their family grow into what it is today. Ken loved seeing his family grow and succeed and he was extremely proud of every single one of them.

Surviving is the love of his life, Margaret “Peg” Allison Schmac, children, Kenneth (Mona) Schmac, Deanna (John F. “Pudge” Prebeg Jr.) Schmac, Lisa (Jon) Olinger, grandchildren, Kenneth (Rachel) Schmac, Christina Schmac, Lynn (Greg) Fandray, Kristen Woodring, Michael Godfrey, Aleisa Hans and Ryan (Morgan) Hans, and 14 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Schmac and Don Schmac.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800).
