Obituary for John "Jack" R. Ewing

John R. “Jack” Ewing, 78, of Oakdale passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 in his home.

Jack was born on August 23, 1944 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late J. Russell and Norma Jean (Moore) Ewing. He spent most of his life in Oakdale, except the years he spent studying English at Allegheny College.

Jack was known as Mr. Ewing to students at South Side Beaver Area High School where he taught English for nearly 40 years. Jack was proud of his career. He enjoyed working with students, helping them to appreciate literature and to develop as writers. Outside of school, Jack could often be found reading books or attending book sales. Jack was also proud to have authored a history of Oakdale as part of its centennial celebration.

If Jack loved anything more than a book, it was his family. He was a faithful husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia (Hager) Ewing, children; John R. Ewing, Jr., Steven (Stephanie) Ewing and Amy (Andrew) Goodwin, grandchildren; Helen, Vivian and Margaret Goodwin and Malcolm Ewing; and brother, Robert Ewing.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Rd., Oakdale (724-693-2800). A Service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Montours Church Cemetery.
