Obituary for Hannah "Tootsie" Garrett (Bushmire)

Hannah “Tootsie” Bushmire Garrett, 78 of Sturgeon, South Fayette Township, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in her home, with her loving family by her side.

Hannah was born on February 7, 1945, a daughter of the late Henry and Hannah McFalls Bushmire.

Tootsie was a graduate of South Fayette High School, class of 1963. A year later, Tootsie married the love of her life Louis “Bud” Garrett on November 28, 1964. They were each other’s best friends and their friendship and love only grew stronger as life went on. Together they filled their life with their two children, John and Patti, who then gave them their four grandchildren and along came their first great grandson. As her children were growing up Tootsie and Bud loved to take them camping and fishing. They would take their camper and boat up to the water and spend the weekends altogether. Even as grandchildren came into the picture, Tootsie made sure she was as active with her grandchildren, just as she was with her children. She was adventurous and loved being outdoors, whether at home, camp or on the water. In her free time Tootsie loved crocheting and quilting. She even made her great grandson a quilt of his own.

Tootsie was an extraordinary woman. Caring for her family was always her main priority. She loved each and everyone one of them in her own special way. Tootsie always had a way to make you smile and feel that special love that she had for you. She and her beloved husband Bud, were the perfect example of true love for their children and grandchildren. Marrying your best friend and loving them more each day, was something that Tootsie was so fortunate enough to teach her family.

Surviving is her loving husband, Bud Garrett, children, John (Kim) Garrett and Patricia “Patti” (Michael) McCartney, grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth (Justin) Harris, Michael McCartney Jr., Louis “Lou” Garrett and Patrick Garrett, and great-grandson, Evan Harris.

Along with her parents, Tootsie is preceded in death by her brothers, James L. Bushmire Sr. and John “Jack” Bushmire.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800).
