Obituary for Eugene Flynt Kennedy

Eugene “Flynt” Kennedy, 91, of McDonald, Mt. Pleasant Township, passed away on, Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in his home.

Flynt was born on May 25, 1931, in Chillicothe, Texas, the son of the late Eugene Ayers Kennedy and Margaret (Flynt) Kennedy.

Mr. Kennedy was a well-educated man. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University and Ph.D. from Rice University in Houston, Texas and continued his education post-doctorally at Cal Tech. Flynt worked for Conoco and then CONSOL Energy where he retired as Vice President of Research and Development.

Flynt loved to reminisce about his early years including working hard on his family farm and being the star quarterback in high school. Flynt’s adventurous nature was highlighted by his love for traveling. One of his greatest memories and proudest achievements was climbing Longs Peak Mountain (15,000 foot elevation) in Colorado, not once but ten times. He also enjoyed cooking, baking and time with family. Flynt’s love and laughter was infectious and always filled everyone’s hearts.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, and best friend until the very end, Janet (Valent) Kennedy, daughter Ren (Bryan) Tarman and step-children, Lisa (Jimmy) Vaughn, and Jennifer (Keith) Schiedenhelm, daughter-in-law, Becki Neel, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Flynt is preceded in death by his step-son, Brian Neel, and siblings, E.A. Kennedy, Pete Kennedy and Clay Kennedy.

All arrangements are private and entrusted to Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800). In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, in memory of Flynt.
