Obituary for Doris J. Aggers (Smitsky)

Doris J. (Smitsky) Aggers, 66, of Burgettstown, Cross Creek Township, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, in Weirton Medical Center.

Doris was born on July 10, 1956, in Canonsburg Hospital, a daughter of the late, Daniel Joseph and Josephine (Muslick) Smitsky.

Mrs. Aggers was the most gifted, talented, and loving woman you would ever meet. Doris had a green thumb like no other. She would lovingly instruct her husband, Keith of where to perfectly plant all her flowers every year. By the time spring and summer came around, Doris had a beautiful garden that she could not wait to share. A way that Doris enjoyed sharing her colorful flowers was through her own creations of arrangements. Doris used her detailed eye to always create such a masterpiece of flowers, whether they were silk or live. Many times, when Doris was competing in the Washington County Fair, she would take home a blue ribbon for her larger-than-life flowers, that always stole the show. She also competed in the fair and took home multiple blue ribbons, with her flowers and vegetables. Doris loved cooking, baking and canning and sharing it with people. She was known for her famous yellow beans and small pickles and the numerous jars of sauce she would can every year. She filled her home with all her canning creations and flower arrangements. Doris loved being around people and seeing their smiles as they admired or tasted what she had done.

Doris cared so deeply for the people she loved, especially her family. There was no messing with Doris’s family and everyone knew that. She even loved finding out about her ancestors from all sides of her family. Being a wife, mother and sister, came with a protective nature that she took very seriously. They were her world, especially her husband and son. Her two guys were there for her through every step-in life and they always had a way to make Doris smile. Mrs. Aggers was lucky enough to marry her best friend forty years ago and together they had their son who completed their little family. The three of them valued hard work and still do to this day. There was never a time where Doris didn’t enjoy being active with her guys. She always had the most fun with them and her heart was always filled with so much love.

Surviving are her loving husband, Keith Aggers, son, Steven (fiancé Amy) Aggers, step-daughter, Leslie Sprowls, step-granddaughter, Riley Sprowls, siblings, Mary Blackeslee, Josephine Miller, Carl (Nancy) Smitsky, Larry (Gloria) Smitsky and Bob (Brenda) Smitsky, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her siblings, Daniel Smitsky, Beatrice Walker, and Helen Smitsky.
