Obituary for Donn W. Carter

Donn W. Carter, 54, of Oakdale, South Fayette Township, passed away on February 7, 2023, in Allegheny General Hospital.

Donn was born on December 27, 1968, in Washington, the son of Donaldson E. and Carolyn (Cook) Carter of Cecil Township.

Mr. Carter was in the oil and gas field as a mechanic and salesman for over 30 years. Donn was an outdoorsman. He loved spending time golfing or camping with his boys and friends. His favorite activity was spending time in the garage with his dog, Ginger, or anyone else who decided to stop by. When Donn had some free time he loved to sit down on the couch and enjoy some old movies. He loved any shows from the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.

If you ever were lucky enough to meet Donn, he probably graced you with a joke, and a big laugh all while wearing his cowboy hat and boots. Donn was the type of person that filled your life with joy. His love and dedication to his friends and family is something that you cannot find in everyone. You knew just how special you were to Donn when he assigned you one of his classic nicknames. They may have been off the wall but they always came from the heart. All Donn ever wanted to do was care for everyone that he met. He always saved himself for last and made sure everyone came before him.

If that does not attest to the wonderful man that Donn was, his legacy definitely will. Donn was a very proud husband and father. There is nothing that he would not do for his family. Donn was a very active father. He never missed anything that involved his boys. They were his pride and joy and it was evident. Donn and his wife, Lisa, raised their boys to be strong and caring men, just like the two of them. Donn made sure that even after his sudden passing that his legacy would shine through with his sons. He taught each of them how to care for each other and their mother, how to smile through the hard times, lean on one another, and to love each other every single second of every day.

Surviving along with his parents, are his loving wife of 29 years and best friend, Lisa (Potts) Carter, sons, Jeremy (fiancé Taylor Timmons) Carter, Nicholas Carter and Ryan Carter, sister, Amy (Richard) Furda, nephew, Luke Potts, parents-in-law, Robert and Charlene Potts, brothers-in-law, Robert and Jeff Potts, granddog, Finn and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, February 12, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800). A Service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Robinson Run Cemetery.
