Obituary for Alice L. Henderson (Ragland)

Alice L. (Ragland) Henderson, 93, of McDonald, died Friday, July 9, 2021 in her home in McDonald.

She was born November 30, 1927 in McDonald, a daughter of the late John W. Ragland, Sr. and Lelia Walker Ragland.

Mrs. Henderson was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonald. She was a homemaker, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Silver Leaf Choir. When she wasn’t out serving her church community, she was a loving mother, wife, and aunt to both blood relatives and close friends in the area. Famously known as “Audie” or “Aunt Alice,” she always had her doors open and a hot meal prepared for anyone who came to her home. Alice was always interested in learning, staying on top of current events, and having discussions with young people whom she loved deeply and believed in fiercely. Her smile, grace, wit, poise, and gentle kindness will surely be missed.

Surviving are her daughter, Collie Henderson of McDonald, her nieces Rhonda L. (Ted) Freeman of FL, Steffanie L. Ragland of GA; and her nephew Christopher W. Ragland of FL.
She is also survived by 2 great nieces Erica McNair of NC and Lauren Ragland of McDonald; a great nephew, Mychal (Amy) Ragland of Moon; and 2 great-great nieces Kamira McNeal of Maryland and Amara Ragland of Moon, and one great-great nephew, Kamren Ali of NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ballard R. Henderson, 5 brothers- John, Earnest, Raymond, Percelle, and Charles Ragland; 3 sisters- Emma and Harriet Smith and Marcella Ragland; and 2 nieces- Dru and Laurel Ragland.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 10-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of McDonald, 141 N McDonald St, McDonald, PA 15057. A Homegoing service will be held at the church following viewing at 11 a.m.
