Obituary for Alice E. Stewart (Haggerty)

Alice E. (Haggerty) Stewart, 94, of Rennerdale, Collier Township, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in her home.

Mrs. Stewart was born on February 5, 1928, in Carnegie, a daughter of the late John and Dorothea (LeBrocq) Haggerty.

Alice graduated from Scott High School as her class valedictorian and from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Melon University) as one of only 5 women who majored in chemistry.

Alice was a retired elementary school teacher of Chartiers Valley School District, where she worked for a number of years. Mrs. Stewart loved her students and educating the minds of the future. She took great pride in what she did and always made sure to give her students everything they needed to succeed. Alice was also a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale. She made many friends that became family within the church and she enjoyed being a part of such a great community. Mrs. Stewart also loved to travel, with the “ladies” as they drove all over the United States. In her free time Alice enjoyed challenging her brain and completing cross word puzzles. More than anything Alice loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Being a grandmother was such an important role to her and she cherished every moment.

Surviving are her children; Jack (Carolyn) Stewart of California, Carol (Rick) Pellafone of Michigan, and Bob (Traci) Stewart of Pittsburgh, her seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Alice is preceded in death by her husband A. Verne Stewart, grandson, Robert Stewart and siblings, Richard Haggerty and Betty Haggerty.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10 a.m. at First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale, 151 Noblestown Road, Carnegie, PA 15106. A Service will be held following the viewing at 11 a.m. in the Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Rennerdale.
